Mineral and bone disease pattern in elderly haemodialysis Title patients

An increasing prevalence of patients undergoing maintenance dialysis older than 75 years has been reported orldwide, and the increment rate is currently greatest among this group. This prospective, cross-sectional study investigated parameters of mineral and bone disorder of chronic kidney disease (CKD-MBD) in elderly compared to
younger maintenance HD patients................

Variability of Creatinine Measurements in Clinical Laboratories: Results from
the CRIC Study

Serum creatinine (Cr) values are frequently used to determine renal function, e.g. glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
GFR in turn is used to classify patients accordingly and to generate epidemiological data or determine inclusion
criteria for clinical studies. Unfortunately, laboratory assessment methods bear wide variations leading potentially
to misclassification or selection bias due to incorrect Cr values.
In this study the authors examined the creatinine assessment variability and developed methods for its correction...............

Hospital treatment for fluid overload in the Medicare haemodialysis population

Fluid overload is relatively common in dialysis patients and is associated with adverse outcomes including hypertension, exacerbation of congestive heart failure, and increased risk of death. It is well-known that fluid overload sometimes results in a need for emergent dialysis outside of regularly scheduled dialysis sessions..............
